Bessie's Family
Bessie was married in 1912 and John went to work in the mines. First came Esther in 1914 and then Edith in 1917. Bessie contracted pulmonary tuberculosis in 1917 and died January 1, 1918, The baby Edith Lillian became ill and died in September 1918 of stomach trouble. John became ill and died of tuberculosis on November 1, 1921. He lived in Laura Lee Mines at the time of his death. This left Esther alone. Esther went to live with her aunt and uncle, Ossie and Gus Shreves. At that time they lived on Jones Run. Esther died at the age of 14 in 1929 also of pulmonary tuberculosis and was buried at a small cemetery on Jones Run. In 2009 I attempted to find the cemetery but could not. No one living in that area was quite sure of the location.
